our team

  • Gemma

    FOUNDER / MANAGER

Gemma is one of our founders and her main role is to make sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. She is the creative behind the brand, looks after our members and the team, and is always working on the finer details to ensure we are providing best possible experience for our community.

  • Fin

    FOUNDER / HEAD COACH

Fin is the second half of our founding team and heads up everything that happens on the gym floor. Fin still spends most of his time coaching our members, and also designs all of our programmes from scratch. He works with each of our members individually and communicates with our coaching team to ensure every single person is adapted for and progresses on their own journey.

  • Leanne

    COACH & COMMUNITY

Leanne joined our coaching team after starting as a member herself and wanting to pass her positive gym experience onto others. When she’s not on the gym floor, Leanne spends her time planning & co-ordinating all of our events, socials & workshops and other initiatives throughout the year to bring our community together, as well as designing our sought-after merchandise range.

  • Julie

    FRONT OF HOUSE

Julie is known as the gym mum (apt considering she is Gemma’s actual mum!). She is always around for our members to chat to if they need a listening ear, makes the most delicious coffees and keeps everything stocked up & clean, not forgetting to mention her infamous protein balls she makes for our members to help themselves to if they need a little pick-me-up!

  • Angela

    FRONT OF HOUSE

Angela started out as a member of our community and we just knew she would be the perfect fit for our front of house team. Never without a smile on her face, Angela has such a positive impact on our community, and makes sure everyone who comes through our doors feels welcome, supported and well-caffeinated at all times!

Nestled in the heart of the South Downs, our converted stable block makes for the perfect place to train.

Our gym space is well-equipped and spacious with plenty of kit for everyone, we have changing and shower facilities available for you to use before and after your sessions, and not forgetting our cosy welcome room for that all important post-session coffee and catch up!

We’re conveniently located in Fulking, Henfield, within driving distance from Steyning, Upper Beeding, Hurstpierpoint, Hassocks, Shoreham-by-sea & Hove, with on-site parking available for a hassle-free experience.

  • "I’ve been training at Solo for years now, and its the best of the best. From recovering from an injury to getting me ready for both a half marathon and a full marathon, Fin, Gemma, and Leanne have been an incredible support. What really stands out is their approach to weight training. After my injury, I was a bit hesitant, but they tailored my sessions perfectly to help me rebuild strength without overdoing it. They know how to create routines that are both challenging and safe. The progress I’ve made in my strength and mobility has been huge, and it’s made a real difference in my running and overall fitness. The vibe at Solo is amazing. It’s not just about lifting weights; it’s about having fun while doing it. The coaches keep each session fresh, with frequent changes to the programme. They push you when needed but always offer the support and encouragement that makes a huge difference. All sessions are made even better by a delicious coffee by Julie & Angela after."

  • “I thoroughly love coming to solo several times a week to build my strength and get a social and coffee fix. The trainers are very professional, friendly, motivational and nurturing, a rare and wonderful mix of super qualities. I’ve got a lot stronger over the last year and it’s super energising to see progress over time. There’s also some fun cardio/weight and yoga sessions to dip into and social events to enjoy. Fabulous location too, calming to look at birds chirping or the sun setting whilst pumping iron. Fin, Leanne and Gemma make a great trio of trainers."

  • “This gym is a hidden gem. The small group training sessions are expertly tailored, with coaches who genuinely care about your progress and know how to bring out the best in you. I’ve been recovering from a nasty injury and the team here have really helped me rehab properly and rebuild strength. I’m now doing exercises I never thought I’d be able to do again. The equipment is high-quality, and the views of the countryside make it a lovely place to train as well as the really great community here too, everyone is so friendly and supportive. Highly recommended for anyone who values a personalised approach to fitness.”

  • "Couldn’t recommend solo enough! I have never felt more confident and healthier in my life. The community is absolutely amazing and so encouraging. Fin, Gemma and the team are so lovely and will manage and tailor things to you if you have an injury or training for marathons etc… even in small groups it really does feel like you are still having a 1-1 as the coaches will look at every movement to make sure your technique is correct, but also between sets having friendly great conversations and a laugh with everyone. I’ve met so many amazing people and it hasn’t become a ‘chore’ to exercise. It’s now an amazing lifestyle I look forward to!"

  • "I joined Solo three months ago. I’m in my fifties and a lifetime subscriber/non user of gyms. I usually go once and then get bored, lose motivation, feel intimidated and make all sorts of excuses not to go. Solo has changed that pattern for me entirely. Their trainer led small group sessions mean that you are never bored, intimidated or out of your depth. It’s a welcoming, friendly place to train with incredibly knowledgeable and hands on trainers. In three months I have already felt noticeable health and fitness benefits including improvement in my knees and back, including the solving of a 15 year problem in my back. I’m beyond delighted with my experience with Solo. I’m a convert to the gym! And I never ever thought I would say that."

  • "I am 67 and 6 years post a major trauma which means I have a quite a few bodily restrictions. I have tried various gyms and personal trainers and none of them have managed to accommodate my needs. Solo have been brilliant! Fin made a very thorough assessment of my restrictions before I started and worked out a number of ways to accommodate my needs. 10 weeks in and I feel significantly stronger and have developed my technique so that I can handle heavier weights. Throughout, he and Leanne are very attentive to my technique, watching me in detail, and they provide regular feedback to confirm my good form or suggest how to improve it. Their knowledge of physiology and how that relates to my past injuries is excellent and they are very good at identifying what exercises might be difficult for me. Anybody with specific needs should not hesitate to investigate Solo. All this combined with very friendly and supportive instruction plus a strong sense of community among other members makes for a really fun environment to exercise in and one which I always look forward to."
